Great Big Picnic FunWhen you think of summertime activities for kids, a picnic must be on the list. However, this picnic includes a great big lunch in one great big picnic basket!

First, you need to determine a perfect picnic location. This could be a nearby park, campsite, or even your own back yard.

Great Big Picnic Basket

Next, find a large cardboard rectangular box with lids. You can usually find these from retail outlets, or just keep your eyes open. They seem to pop up when you least suspect it. Make sure this box is clean and sturdy.

To make the Great Big Picnic Basket, tear or cut-off the shorter lid ends. Then draw sideways D-shaped “handles” on the remaining lids. Make sure the curved sides are wide enough to carry the contents of the basket. Now, the center of the handles needs to be cut out using scissors. Use care in doing so.

After the box is ready, kids can use markers, colored pencils, and crayons to decorate so it looks like a picnic basket. You can draw red or black hatch marks on it, or you can decorate it with nature items, such as flowers, trees, and birds.

Great Big Picnic Lunch

Now you are ready to make the Great Big Picnic Lunch. For this, you will need to purchase a loaf (or two depending on how many will be eating the lunch) of French bread. Slice it down the middle and add all the makings for your favorite sandwich.

Pack an extra large bag of chips along with a three liter bottle of punch or soda. Be sure to include napkins, cups (the bigger the better), paper plates, blanket, and something to cut your sandwich into small pieces (unless you want to eat the entire Big Sandwich). It is always even better if you are able to prepare with a Great Big Dessert Cookie, Brownie, or Rice Krispie Treat to go along with the lunch. Be creative and add more of your favorites (e.g. fruit, vegetables, etc.).

Great Big Picnic Games

After enjoying your Big Picnic, the real fun starts. Plan to have some games to enjoy to go along with your theme. This may include packing a Great Big Beach Ball for playing kickball, soccer, or baseball. Or try filling regular-sized balloons with water and having a Great Big Water Balloon Fight.

Think Big as you plan the day! You’re in for some extra sized summer fun!
